Interlocutor Sam Rose loves interviewing nature writers as part of the BridLit team.

Sam, who’s lived in Bridport with his family for 20 years, is CEO of local nature restoration charity West Dorset Wilding.

In a past life he managed the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site for 15 years.

He’s returning to BridLit on Monday 2 November at 3.30pm to talk to award-winning author Sophie Pavelle about her new book, To Have or To Hold: Nature’s Hidden Relationships, in the Bull Ballroom.

Sophie’s book explores nature’s symbiotic relationships. Investigating eight relationships trying to survive the climate crises, Pavelle asks what can nature teach us about living together?

Species form and sever alliances everywhere. Whether deep within temperate rainforests or the open ocean, nature thrives on relationships as glamorous as they are grotesque. Low carbon travelling around the British Isles, Sophie presents nature’s frauds, fortune tellers, and misfits.

Sophie is a US-born and UK-based science communicator. She worked for Beaver Trust and presented their award-winning documentary Beavers Without Borders. She is an Ambassador for The Wildlife Trusts and sat on the RSPB England Advisory Committee. Her writing has appeared in The Guardian, National Geographic Traveller, New Scientist, The Independent and BBC magazines.

Her first book, Forget Me Not, was widely praised for encouraging action against climate change and biodiversity loss.
