There’s a great event coming up at Bridport Library on Thursday 10 November, especially with seniors in mind.

Hamish Whiteley is a teacher and lecturer in the performing arts. He is also a brilliant storyteller.

His book, Growing Up With Grandma, tells of one year in the life of a nine-year-old boy living with his grandparents in Huddersfield in 1959.

He wants to be good and helpful but this is far from simple, Turkeys, bagpipes, kippers and a bed of nails get in the way.

Ten of the stories from the book were broadcast on BBC Radio 4.

The event starts at 2.30pm and costs just £2.

Tickets from Bridport Tourist Information Centre, in Bucky Doo Square (telephone 01308 424901 and email bridport.tic@bridport-tc.gov.uk) and online at bridlit.com
