The Journey from Restaurant Empire to Fish Truck – and back again…..

During lockdown Dorset born chef,  foodwriter and restaurateur Mark Hix embarked upon exciting new ventures. Since the Spring of 2020, with his characteristic positivity, energy and creativity he opened The Oyster and Fish Truck pitched outside his favourite farm shop on the A35;  reopened his famous Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis;  and opened a new restaurant at The Fox Inn, a hidden gem nestled in glorious countryside near Beaminster.  His astonishing  library of cookbooks can also be found there.   Mark’s talent to bring an abundance of foods from local farmers, gamekeepers and fishermen as well as local beers and spirits is unrivalled, as is his reputation.

If you purchase a ticket including the meal afterwards, this will be provided by the venue, Slader’s Yard, not Mark Hix himself.

Celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix MBE is known for his original take on British gastronomy and lauded for his unrivalled knowledge of ingredients with provenance.  He is an award winning author of 12 cookbooks and a regular contributor to the Saturday Telegraph Magazine, Dorset Magazine and Marshwood Vale.  He was the food writer for The Independent for 14 years.

After 17 years with Caprice Holdings, he left his Chef Director role in 2007 to open HIX Restaurants which spread across London’s West End and City as well as his native Dorset until they were closed in April 2020 as a result of Covid 19 and his journey has been well documented in the media. 

Mark has rebuilt his business with the reopening of The Oyster and Fish House and the enterprising Fish Truck and now the hugely successful launching of The Fox at Corscombe.  There he plans to host dinners and cooking demonstrations in his Kitchen Library.  

Mark also plans HIX AT HOME so that fresh fish boxes can be ordered online and COOKING WITH HIX an on line demonstration
